Island hopping

We had to be up quite early to drive down to the airport, luckily the traffic was fairly quiet on a Sunday morning so we had plenty of time when we arrived. We grabbed a coffee/hot chocolate before the short 30 minute flight to Big Island. I've been to a lot of airports in my time but the one at Kona was the first open air airport I've ever seen!

We picked up the hire car (pic to follow!) and drove the 15 miles down to Kailua and the Mauna Loa village, a lovely place on the edge of the resort. We have a big apartment with two en suite bedrooms downstairs and a big open plan lounge and kitchen area upstairs. The kids soon made themselves at home!

Steve and the kids went off for a swim in the pool next to the unit while Rachel unpacked, before a trip to the supermarket. Since it was Sunday we bought a rotisserie chicken, mash and sweet corn and had a roast dinner :)
