Pearl Harbor - USS Arizona

After a hot dog lunch we went to the film that is shown before the trip to the memorial site. A 23 minute introduction to the history around the Pearl Harbor attacks. It's a sobering thought that of the 1177 people killed when the Arizona was hit, some 900 of the bodies are still entombed in the wreck.

We caught a boat out to the memorial, which sits in the water above the submerged wreck, parts of which protrude above the waves. Isobel found it all quite emotional. It was a slightly surreal sight seeing the rusting remains just beneath the water, with oil still leaking to the surface even now 71 years later.
